Obsilon Software

In addition to its consultancy capacity, Obsilon has invested considerable effort in developing a complementary range of software products to enhance R/KYV without compromising the integrity of the original product:

- Obsilion OCR

Iciris, the core OCR engine within R/KYV, has not been upgraded for over 6 years. In this time, OCR technology has moved on significantly.

Obsilon OCR offers a 2009 standard of OCR at a 2003 price. Furthermore, Obsilon OCR allows R/KYV to handle documents that it currently rejects, such as Adobe Acrobat and colour files, and significantly enhances its ability to deskew and automatically rotate files that it currently struggles with.

Obsilon OCR is completely plug-in compatible, and uses the existing R/KYV interfaces so no changes are made to R/KYV.

Docusite can also provide consultancy to quickly and effectively re-OCR the entire R/KYV image set, to bring the whole system to 2009 standards.

In addition, for supported users, Docusite commits that as new OCR technology becomes available, it will provide upgrades to the Obsilon OCR system free of charge.

- Obsilion PDF

To many, the TIFF image is an anachronism, a format that was useful in the fax age, one which has now been replaced by more modern formats, in particular the ubiquitous Adobe PDF document.

As a bolt-on module to Obsilon OCR, Obsilon PDF creates a fully searchable pdf version of all R/KYV documents. This means that every image has the full text embedded within it, behind the corresponding image. Not only does the document become fully searchable, text can be cut and pasted direct from the image.

- Obsilion Tag

There has been a significant trend towards “tagging” documents with wider types of metadata to make them more readily identifiable, and easier to retrieve. This initially started in the consumer sphere, particularly with respect to blog postings, but has now moved into the mainstream, with tagging functionality finding its way into most modern EDRMS systems.

R/KYV can be configured to store this type of metadata, in addition to the metadata already associated with existing documents.

It is, however, a laborious task, and is one that is virtually impossible to implement in an existing system. In effect, you are manually re-indexing an entire archive, opening and re-reading every existing document.

The Obsilon Tag product takes away this issue. It plugs into Obsilon OCR, and uses highly-sophisticated natural language algorithms, to automatically analyse R/KYV documents, and produce a relevant set of tags, which can be automatically imported into R/KYV dramatically enhancing the amount and quality of metadata available to users.

Obsilon Tag not only analyses new, incoming documents, but can “tag” every existing document as well, automating an otherwise enormous task.

Obsilon Tag can even be configured to present a visual “tag cloud” next to documents returned by R/KYV.

- Obsilon VoxSearch

Even with the large growth of web-based services, many day-to-day interactions with customers are done over the telephone, and today, many of those are recorded.

But how useful are those recordings?

Obsilon VoxSearch allows R/KYV to create a searchable index of any audio files and records you might have, be they call-centre interactions or a client meeting.

It allows Obsilon OCR to treat audio files in the same way as image and text files, significantly enhancing the value of voice recording technology. Any audio document uploaded to R/KYV is added to R/KYV’s free text index, allowing it to be retrieved in the same way as any text or image document. Each file is broken down into 30 second units, and subjected to intensive processing to achieve high-quality transcription and indexing

- Obsilon VoxControl (Q3 ‘09)

There are many occasions on which it just isn’t possible to get to a computer to update a remote system, or to conduct a vital search.

Often, users are driving, stuck in traffic or walking from place to place, and need to perform an update quickly, to ensure valuable data is disseminated, for example following a visit by Social Services.

Obsilon VoxControl is designed to bridge that gap, bringing telephone based interaction with remote computer systems.

Rather than completely re-implementing existing systems to make them voice enabled, Obsilon VoxControl can sit on top of almost any infrastructure, and add voice control to it.

It even has the ability to summarise and send short snippets of information by SMS, or to prepare longer reports that can be downloaded when a computer and internet access is available.
